I’m glad, I like Tom Cable. With JaMarcus Russell on the bench, this team is clearly headed in the right direction, and people have suddenly stopped laughing at Oakland. So with a 6-10 finish, does Tom Cable keep his job I say yes. Cable has seen the light and gone with the guy who can win games for him, Bruce Gradkowski. Cable has instilled in this team a fighting spirit that has been missing for many years. This team doesn’t give up like other Raider teams have done.
He also wants to be there, he isn’t just passing through to fill out his resume. You can never predict what Al Davis will do, but with the change of quarterback, this is a different team, and I think it would be a grave mistake to interrupt such obvious progress now.. The Red Sox have a history of taking chances on talented pitchers with a history of injury, or who are in fact returning from injury. Going as far back as Luis Tiant, and later Bret Saberhagen, the Red Sox have rolled the dice with pitchers on the comeback trail.More recently, the Red Sox made modest investments in pitchers such as Wade Miller (4 wins, 18 starts, 4.95 ERA), Bartolo Colon (4 wins, 7 starts, 3.92 ERA), Brad Penny (7 wins, 24 starts, 5.61 ERA), and John Smoltz (2 wins, 8 starts, 8.33 ERA). None of these gambles worked out or paid off. This winter, there are an assortment of similar pitcherstalented but injury pronelooking for work. Pitchers like Ben Sheets, Mark Mulder, and Kelvim Escbobar are all available and seeking an opportunity to regain their previous form. The Red Sox are said to have interest in two of these such pitchers, Rich Harden (28) and Erik Bedard (31 on opening day).

Neither was offered arbitration by their previous team, making them all the more desirable.Harden's career has been racked by injuries, though he has been relatively healthy the last two years. In seven seasons, Harden has made 30 starts just once (31 in 2004), and he has never thrown 200 innings. But last season he had 171 Ks in just 141 innings, an amazing 10.91 K/9 ratio. Harden also has a 3.39 career ERA.Bedard has been sidelined in each of the past two seasons due to shoulder issues. Over six seasons, Bedard has also made 30 starts just once (33 in 2006), and has never thrown 200 innings However, he did reach 196 in 2006 That year he also had a career-high 15 wins And Bedard struck out 221 batters in 2007. His career ERA is 3.71, all in the AL.Health is obviously the most critical factor with each of these pitchers. All things being equal, having another lefty as nasty as Bedard would considerably deepen the Red Sox rotation. were kept under 100 yards on the ground.Still, the Titans team that took the field against Indianapolis was not the same team we have enjoyed watching for the last month. On offense they looked slack; Young did not seem to be on the same page with his receiving corps, frequently throwing out routes when the receiver ran an in route, or throwing long when the receiver pulled up short (or, in the case of his one interception, vice versa).Even when he was on the same page, his receivers let him down with a dropped pass, such as the long strike to Nate Washington that could have scored six if Washington wasn't so apparently intent on showing Titans fans why he was the No.
The underneath routes that allowed Manning and the Colts to pick up critical third downs; the runs that looked to be stopped in the backfield that instead turned into positive gains; the late game drive that ate up over half of the remaining time and put the Titans in a virtual no-win situation. Not to mention the two failed fourth down attempts in the red zone that might have made a significant difference in the outcome. Red zone drives should end in points every time; the fact that Fisher and Co. felt it necessary to go for it not once, but twice, on fourth down kept six points off of the board, six points that could have made a difference in play-calling later in the game.A recovered onside kick late in the fourth quarter went for naught; with no time outs and time quickly slipping away, the Titans failed to convert on fourth-and-10, leaving the Colts two kneeldowns awayfrom ending the game. Alas, the loss realistically means an end to the Titans post season aspirations; they may still be mathematically alive, but with so many teams in front of them, their best bet at making the Super Bowl is to buy their tickets now.Of course, the Colts win, coupled with an overtime victory by the New Orleans Saints, keeps the possibility of an undefeated Super Bowl alive. We all know that once the Colts lock up the top seed, they are likely to shut it down and allow their starters to rest and recover for the playoffs; until then, though, it sure is nice to dream about it.. When I first read Chalie Weis comments on an alleged extramarital relationship between Pete Carroll and a grad student, I thought it was a hoax. Why would Charlie Weis make a comment like thatNot too many NFL GMs and head coaches will be so quick to hire an offensive coordinator who might some day throw one of his peers under the bus. Whatever aspersions Weis offhanded comments may have on Pete Carrolls character, they have certainly cast doubt on his own. Here is the remark that was part of an exit interview that Weis gave to five reporters from IrishIllustrated and posted by the site's senior editor, Tim Prister. "Let me ask you this question," said Weis "You guys know about things that go on in different places. Was I living with a grad student in Malibu, or was I living with my wife in my house You could bet that if I were living with a grad student here in South Bend, it would be national news Hes doing it in Malibu and its not national news Whats the difference"I dont understand.
