I will give the offensive edge to the Volunteers

VT has lost 2 times (Georgia,2006 24-31 and Miami,1981 10-20 ) Virginia Tech won the bowl in 1986 against NC state 25-24. Tennessee has won in 1988 against Indiana 27-22 but lost 3 times(Iowa,1982 22-28; Maryland,2002 3-30; Clemson,2004 14-27).Virginia Tech has 0 national titles in football(or any sport for that matter). Tennessee has 6 titles from 1938, 1940, 1950, 1951,1967 and 1998. Tennessee has 16 conference titles; VT has 7 conference championships.Virginia Tech is 8-14 in post season bowl games while the Vols are 25-22. There is no denying that the Vols have FAR more history and are a storied program and are a great travelling team and have a great fan base that will travel in great numbers. Now while I respect the Vols I have to point out that the Hokies are a relatively new team in terms of performance The Hokies were not much before the 1980s.

They have just come into the national radar and are still trying to get their hands on the crystal ball.If these game were decided on history and history alone Vols would shut out the Hokies But clearly games don't depend much on history. At most a game result will depend on results from the last 4-5 years but since the 2 teams have not met in this period lets not look at the history. The most important factor for deciding this game is that Virginia Tech isn't a great bowl game team Tennessee has a better record when it comes to bowl games. Although in the last 5-10 years VT has been a good bowl game team To win this game the Hokies need to work on defense Aperennial top 10 defense has been average to say the least. The offense has been better than the past years but there is still room for improvement.

Ryan Williams needs to keep that rush game going while TT has be an efficient passer much like the rest of the season.Considering this seasons stats. VT has a 14th best QB in the nation according to ESPN while Crompton is ranked 41. VT has just a slightly defense compared to Tennessee with higher sacks, tackles and interceptions. VT is better at passing defense and total defense but not by a very great margin.

Tennessee needs to keep the penalties in check and not give away too many yards since this is going to be a very low scoring game. I would expect neither team to score more than 21 points in the game. Considering that VT is a better scoring defense too I have to give VT the edge defensively but its not a huge margin.Offensively Tennessee is a far better passing team They have had far more total offense than Virginia Tech. Although, when it comes to efficiency Tyrod Taylor takes the win since VT pass less but when they do they are far more accurate than the Vols. VT is a better rushing offense which has helped them all season long. I will give the offensive edge to the Volunteers. In a game with so many factors we must realize that stats don't decide games.
